Stu Winby

Founder -- Managing Partner

Stu Winby is Founder and Executive Managing Partner of Sapience Organizational Consulting - a strategy, organizational and leadership consulting firm - headquartered in Silicon Valley. The firm is located in Palo Alto, California. Stu Winby has been both a corporate executive and external consultant and is considered a though leader in his field of strategy-organization. He works with executives and senior teams in the areas of strategy - organization, change, and innovation management.

Current and recent projects have included Microsoft, Yahoo, Kimberly Clark, Alegent Health, Cisco, Proctor &Gamble, Motorola, Analog Devices, US Navy, and LA Power and Water. All current project sponsors are the CEO or C-level suite executives

Prior to Sapience Stu was for 12 years Executive Director / General Manager of Strategy, Organization and Change at HP, which included four practice area organizations: Business Strategy Innovation, Organization Architecture and Change, R&D Solutions Lab, and Product Generation Solutions. Prior to this position he managed HP’s Factory of the Future organization and played a key role in the company’s manufacturing strategy and council. His work at HP has been documented in numerous books, articles and professional journals. Several Harvard Business School Cases have been written on projects he has managed and consulted to, as well as numerous case studies documented by the Conference Board.

Before joining HP, Stu Winby was Vice-President for Advisory Services at the American Productivity Center (APC) where he was responsible for organizational strategy and design, productivity management, and work innovations research and application. He has consulted in a wide variety of manufacturing and service industries, in the public sector, and in countries in the five major regions. Consulting has included companies in oil and gas, utilities, steel, automotive, aluminum and chemical, airlines, financial, aerospace, and electronic hi tech industries.

Stu Winby has also participated in numerous initiatives such the White House Initiative on Productivity and the California Governor Workplace forums. He has been a guest lecturer at various Universities such as Stanford, Harvard, MIT, UCLA and USC business schools. Currently he is a guest lecturer at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey and the Center for Effective Organizations at USC in Los Angeles.

Stu Winby received degrees from San Jose State University in California, with graduate studies at Stanford University. He has attended various executive education programs (e.g., Harvard and Stanford programs). His interests are in strategy – organization alignment, and the management of innovation.
